Some people dream about traveling around the world, visiting places to which they have never been and meeting people from all walks of life. I have never been too keen about hopping on an airplane and flying to faraway places – I am much more of a “home body” and enjoy a fair amount of solitude. I was fortunate to spend a couple of weeks in France, Germany and Switzerland during the summer of 2009, where I took a lot of photos using the “auto” setting on my Nikon Coolpix P90 camera. I recently upgraded to a Nikon D-SLR and am looking forward to experimenting this summer to see if I can improve my photographic technique and vision.
One of the biggest challenges I am facing is that I have spent many years developing my ability to use words and text to make sense of the world. Until my recent retirement (July 2020) I had been teaching in the higher education environment for more than 30 years, yet only recently discovered the power of using images to enhance learning and understanding. So right now I am determined to learn how to think and communicate more effectively through a combination of words and images. I am not exactly sure where this journey will take me, however I am looking forward to the challenge.
